This Sunday, September 8, 2013, the Catonsville Arts and Crafts Festival will be hosted for its 40th Annual year, in the center of historic Catonsville. The Catonsville Arts and Crafts Festival, sponsored by the Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce, features hundreds of artists and crafters who line both sides of Frederick Road (MD Rt. 144) between the 700 and 900 blocks to display their work. Their aim is to attract business people, entrepreneurs, moms, dads, even little kids – there’s something for everyone!!
This family friendly event has experienced huge growth since its beginning in 1969. In that year, only 52 artists, weavers, wood carvers and other small craft businesses lined Frederick Road in an attempt to attract visitors to the Catonsville Business District. The idea was born from the Catonsville Forward Plan. Since then, the event’s coordination has been handed off to multiple different community-oriented groups in the Catonsville area, including the Catonsville Jaycees (& Jaycettes), who disbanded in 1997, the Catonsville Festival Committee, and finally the Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce, under whose direction the event remains today.
Not only does everyone in the family get to try a new product at a small-business vendor, but other local businesses, schools, churches, and civic groups make an appearance at the Catonsville Arts and Crafts Festival to try and market their products, ideas, missions, and more to the Greater Catonsville community! “The local restaurants provide delicious food to try and savor making the Catonsville Festival a true celebration of what makes the town of Catonsville THE PLACE to live, work, shop and play.”
