As a Realtor, I am often asked about crime in a particular area. And as a Realtor, I cannot give out crime statistics or information. I can’t tell you one neighborhood is ‘safe’ and one neighborhood is ‘dangerous’, because these are very subjective terms. I know that this is particularly frustrating for Buyers moving to Maryland from out-of-state. You may feel as though you have no way to gauge the level of crime in the area.
Although I cannot quote crime statistics, I am able to provide you with the tools to research the crime in an area for yourself. And then, once you know the facts, you are free to make your own determinations about the area. Below are two websites that I like to refer clients to when they ask about the level of crime in a Maryland neighborhood:
The Maryland Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention – a very useful, interactive map for comparing communities in Maryland with Fact Sheets by County and detailed crime statistics.
Relocation Essentials – zip code comparison tool. Useful for Buyers relocating to Maryland, as it allows you to compare crime in a new zip code to the zip code in which they currently reside.-Tim McIntyre, Realtor Howard County, Carroll County, Baltimore County For more information about Searching Crime Statistics in Maryland, fill out the form below.
